Opened in 1941, The 28 Shop® at Macy's on State Street has been an elite Chicago shopping destination for generations. Named for the traditional entrance of the carriage trade at 28 E. Washington, the 28 Shop® defined fine fashion of the 1940's. Once housing 28 dressing salons, each with a distinct décor, ladies shopping the haute couture of this elite shop relished in the lap of luxury. Most notably, Christian Dior and a very young Yves Saint Lauren made their first trip to America to visit this early purveyor of fine European designers.
The 28 Shop® at Macy's on State Street is quite easily the most stylish spot to shop in Chicago. Framed in dark wood with marble and beveled glass accents, as well as crystal chandeliers imported from Paris, the interior of the 28 Shop® is as rich as the fashions it houses. Redesigned and accented with furniture by Thomas O'Brien, the interior of the 28 Shop® continues its status of style and sophistication.
To restore the Shop back to its original glamour and elegance, Macy's on State Street has unveiled plans to renovate this in-house designer shop. With new brands and a restored look, the 28 Shop® will encompass a traditional and original shopping experience while featuring today's most up-to-the-minute trends.
The new 28 Shop® brings back shopping sophistication with enhancing renovations including private elevator access and a doorman. The 28 Shop® entrance at 28 East Washington will also be restored. Completing this sensational shopping experience, Macy's will also offer valet parking.
Inside the 28 Shop®, shoppers can select from today's top designers ranging from classics such as Yves Saint Laurent as well as contemporary collections such as Peter Some and Stella McCartney. The fine designs of the 28 Shop® are highlighted in two of Macy's on State Street's annual fashion shows both held during September Fashion Month; the 28 Shop® Show and Glamorama.
