Since their debut in 1907, the Walnut Room, the Tiffany vaulted ceiling and seasonal display of the Great Tree have been largely responsible for the popularity and reputation that encompasses the State Street location. Now, 100 years later, Macy's is celebrating the longevity of these architectural feats.
Located in the southeast corner of the 7th floor, the Walnut Room is perhaps one of the most anticipated attractions that a visitor will encounter during a trip to the Windy City. As the oldest restaurant in Chicago, the Walnut Room boasts of authentic Austrian chandeliers accompanied by the original Russian Circassian walnut paneling. Once a year, this historical space is home to one of Chicago's greatest holiday traditions, the Great Tree, a 2-story monument decorated with 25,000 lights and 1,200 ornaments each holiday season for visitors to enjoy.
Replicating the magnificence and nostalgia associated with the Walnut Room, the Tiffany Vaulted Ceiling has contributed to the historical and architectural virtues of both the store and city alike. A canopy of 1.6 million pieces of hand-laid, Tiffany glass, this work of art enriches much more than the 6th floor space it occupies. Envisioned by the American designer, Louis Comfort Tiffany, founder of Tiffany and Company, Macy's Tiffany Ceiling is the largest in the world and beckons visitors from all over the country to enjoy its wonderment throughout the year.
To experience the full scope of such architectural magnitude, Macy's has designed various activities and dining accommodations for both its tourism and professional groups to enjoy. Specializing in American cuisine and tradition, the Walnut Room offers a vast array of dining options. With group rates for our breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, Macy's will assist your party in choosing the best meal packages to suit both taste and budget. Also, reserve some time to enjoy one of State Street's longest-running traditions and attractions, the Walnut Room Sunday Champagne Brunch and Afternoon Tea available from January through October. With specially designed itineraries for any group size, we are serving up much more than delicious eats.
For both our group tours and meeting groups, the magnificence of the Walnut Room and Tiffany Ceiling go far beyond the dining room encounter. As one of Chicago's landmark sites, Macy's State Street store, along with the Chicago Architecture Foundation, provide a two-hour walking tour incorporating all of the Tiffany-designed affiliates located throughout the Loop. These Tiffany Tours allow visitors to experience the significance behind Tiffany's mosaic, stained glass, dome and vault creations at The Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Marquette Building and finally, our own flagship location. If group size or time management is of concern, Macy's also provides the "Treasures of State Street" 30-minute presentation to incorporate the same historical and architectural information, without ever leaving the convenience of our store. Unique to our meeting groups, the Walnut Room is also available, by reservation, for your corporate events. A 1,000-person reception space and specific catering options, this 100-year old phenomenon will provide a picturesque backdrop for your company's events.
After your group has taken full advantage of the State Street space, be sure to plan a trip with the Chicago Architecture Foundation to enjoy any one of their group tours and exhibition accommodations to go beyond our walls and experience all that Chicago has to offer.
